Chronic back pain
Chronic back pain
Chronic back pain is referred to when the pain has lasted for more than 12 weeks (3 months). The asymptomatic periods begin to decrease between the periods of sudden pain, and this eventually leads to prolonged back pain. In chronic back pain, the actual tissue damage has already healed, but the pain may continue due to the body not being able to properly manage the pain.
In recent years, there has been increasing evidence that acute pain can become chronic as a result of immobility and a sedentary lifestyle. Chronic back pain is a very common disorder; one in five Western adults suffers from recurrent or chronic back pain. Chronic back pain has a major impact on every day, work, and social life, making it a serious problem.
Chronic back pain can be caused by various muscle tension (e.g., constant tension in the shoulders), constant physical stress, repetitive work postures, or hypersensitivity of the central nervous system.
